Dreamscapes are actually mindscapes, representing a sentimentalized view of landscapes I encountered in my travels. The Landscapes mingle imagination and memory. My pictures are my responses to nature’s temperamental display and shifting elements. With minute changes of strength and colour, the sun’s light sculpt nature’s masterpieces with the passing of time and seasons. No one sculpts or paints better than mother nature. Dreamscapes are in a way my interpretations of nature, not reproductions. I love exploring the ephemeral play of light and colours. Real landscapes can get in the way. I wanted my paintings to mirror what I feel nature is all about~ Beauty, spirit, grace and mysterious.
And as I worked further on this series, it became clear that my observation had given me an unusual thoughtful approach to the relationship between image and idea.
I treat my Dreamscapes paintings as my very private dialogue with nature. My studio is the wilderness. My canvas is my mind.
Motion. Its energy overwhelms. Its allure unparalleled. Under its spell, I have discovered infinite aesthetic possibilities even as the rigours of movement distorted colours and forms. My goal is an endless mediation between the aesthetic qualities and the physical interpretations of this phenomenon.
Inspired by grace or aggression inherent in motion, I observed and studied my subjects closely- at times breaking form and motion into small sequences, and using a range of angles within a given time frame all aimed to incorporate the dimension of time within the picture. Through observation, I strived to master the choreography, allowing images to linger and to have a life of their own.
I’m hopeful that the images created will continue to resonate in the audience’s mind.
